One Take Super 8 Event

The One Take Super 8 Event (OTS8) began in 2000, with 20 filmmakers each shooting a single reel of Super 8 film, which then premiered to an audience without the filmmakers seeing their work beforehand. All the films were shown as shot. No cuts. No splices. The popularity of this non-competitive festival has allowed it to return each year with more filmmakers participating. To date over 1000 films have been created for over 50 One Take Super 8 Events across North America!

Unlike the Jets, the OTS8 returns to WPG this fall!

Well, it's been a year and things have changed yet again in Winnipeg. Last year, we welcomed back the returned of the Jets to much fanfare, after the OTS8 filled the cultural void left behind by those puck shufflers. Now, with a lockout imposed, it's up to the talented voices of Winnipeg to rise yet again to the challenge to dry the tears of anguish with streams of joy to witness over 25 brand new super 8 reels hit the screen. We were going to move into MTS for this year's edition, but it would just feel a bit weird, and I the line up for urinals is torture, so..... It's back to our beloved home at the Gas Station theatre for this year's 6th annual WNDX OTS8. The films are at the lab as I type (thanks Pablo and Sebastjan at Niagara), and will be reeled together and expedited in time for the Sunday, September 30th screening at 8pm. Some familiar names are on the list for this year, along with a whole crop of new voices ready to unspool their celluloid dreams. And a quick shout out to past OTS8 participant Deco Dawson on his recent win of Best Canadian Short film at TIFF with his film Keep a Modest Head which will be screening at WNDX. Congrats! We'll be posting the full line up of WNDX OTS8 filmmakers later this week.
